Package Identity

Package Identity contains the properties which appear in the Package Identity tag of the appxmanifest.xml file. These properties uniquely identify the package. These properties are used to:

  • Identify if the package is already installed on the machine

  • Identify the main package to install the update package

  • Identify the main package to install the modification package

Use the Package Identity category to specify the following MSIX package properties:

PropertyDescription
Package NamePackage Name Uniquely identifies the package. It is case-sensitive and should be free text with alpha-numeric, period and dash characters with no spaces.
Package VersionVersion number of the package. A version string should be of the format Major\.Minor\.Build\.Revision . The last (fourth) section of the version number is reserved for Store use and must be left as 0 when saving the package.
PublisherName of the Publisher. The value must match with the Subject Name of the digital certificate file for successful signing.
ArchitectureDescribes the architecture of the code contained in the package.
